On May 22, 2023,Deputies were dispatched to Tiger Mart in Lake Arthur, Louisiana, in reference to a disturbance. 

The reported disturbance took place on Andrus Cove Cemetery Road. The victim reported that she had been beaten and sexually assaulted along with strangled and held at knife point.

The victim was able to escape once the suspect fell asleep.  During the escape, the suspect tried to run over the victim and two others that came to her aid.  The suspect also ran into the back of the complainant's vehicle as they were escaping. 

Maxxwell Kirk Charles, 25, of 634 Commercial Lake Arthur, La was arrested by deputies and booked into the parish jail. Charles is charged with Battery of a dating partner, aggravated battery, 2nd degree rape, aggravated criminal damage to property, and aggravated battery.
