On February 14, 2023, Detectives with JDSO conducted a search warrant at 1421 4th Street, Lake Arthur, La in reference to an Extortion Investigation.

This investigation began on July 12, 2022, when Largo Police Department, Largo, FL contacted Detectives and informed them of a victim being extorted for money.

The suspect, Michael J Hines, posed as a female and was able to obtain nude photos from the victim. After obtaining the photographs, Michael James Hines threatened to distribute the photos of the victim if she did not send Hines a $1,000.

Detectives were able to obtain enough evidence and an arrest warrant was issued for Hines.

Michael James Hines, 47, was located during the search warrant, arrested, and booked into the Parish Jail for Extortion, Computer Fraud, Online Impersonation, and Criminal Use of the Internet.
