On Saturday, February 26, 2022, Deputies were dispatched to the area of Highway 99 and Marceaux Road, Lake Arthur, Louisiana, in reference to the theft of a side-by-side vehicle.

The complainant reported his 2016 Polaris UTV was stolen.  Deputies made a report and entered the vehicle into NCIC.  An alert was also put out on social media and Sheriff Office website to the public for help in locating the stolen property.   

Sheriff's investigators working the case received information on the location of the stolen UTV and who was in possession of it.   The investigation revealed that the original complainant sold the UTV to someone and then reported it stolen and filed a claim with insurance company for reimbursement. 

Kelly Daniel Cormier, 46, of 1011 Clara street, Jennings was arrested on unrelated charges by Jennings police,  April 28, 2022 and booked into the parish jail.  Sheriff's detectives also have now arrested Cormier, on April 28, 2022, on felony filing false report of a motor vehicle theft.
