Traffic stop leads to arrest

On Thursday, April 7, 2022, Patrol deputies observed a white vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Interstate 10 at milepost 57. The vehicle was traveling 100 miles per hour.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop near milepost 61. While talking with the driver, deputies smelled a strong odor of burned marijuana. 

The driver admitted to smoking in the vehicle while traveling from Texas. A search of the vehicle uncovered a small bag of marijuana in the center cup holder and a Smith and Wesson M&P 9-millimeter with an extended magazine. 

Deputies issued a citation for speeding, failure to maintain, and possession of marijuana to the driver, Ferontae Stephon Ross, 24, of 500 Morgan street, Houma, LA, and he was released.

Deputies arrested Sterling Pierre, 22, of 312 Naquin street, Houma for possession of control dangerous substance schedule I and possession of a firearm in the presence of control dangerous substance and booked him in the Parish Jail.
