Voluntary evacuation order

08/25/2020

The National Hurricane Center advises that Hurricane Laura will strike the coasts of Louisiana and Texas. A state of emergency has been declared in Jefferson Davis parish. An order of voluntary evacuation has been signed by the Parish President.

The request for citizens to voluntarily evacuate from low lying areas subject to flooding and mobile homes. This is necessary for the preservation of life, in and around the threatened areas.

The voluntary order is effective at 11:00 am , Tuesday August 25, 2020.

Hurricane Laura landfall projection late Wednesday night/early Thursday morning. Rainfall of 5 to 10 inches with locally 15 inches will cause flooding. Water rescues will likely be required if people are on the road and stay in the effected areas.

Sheriff Woods will implement a parish wide curfew beginning Thursday, August 27, 2020 at sunset. Officials expect electrical power outages and flooded roadways as the storm passes thru the parish. Downed power lines and trees will hamper responses by emergency services until paths can be cleared and the winds drop below 35 miles per hour. For those reasons the curfew will be in effect from sunset to sunrise until the state of emergency has ended.
