Drug Take-back day

04/26/2018

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day

On Saturday, April 28, 2018, the Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration will coordinate a one-day collaborative effort to remove potentially dangerous controlled substances from our communities.

This national take back initiative will provide a unified opportunity for the public to surrender pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications to law enforcement officers for destruction.

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administrations National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), twice as many Americans regularly abused prescription drugs than the number of those who regularly use cocaine, hallucinogens, heroin, and inhalants combined.

That same study revealed more than 70 percent of people abusing prescription pain relievers got them through friends or relatives, a statistic that includes raiding the family medicine cabinet.

Collection activities are scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday April 28 at the Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff Office, located at the Courthouse, 321 East Plaquemine street, Jennings.  Please tell your families and friends.
