Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

In another investigation Sunday, Deputies arrested two on drug charges resulting from a traffic stop.  Deputies stopped a vehicle near Hwy 26 and Shankland avenue in Jennings around 11:00 pm. When deputies approached the vehicle to speak with the driver they smelled the odor of marijuana emitting from the driver’s window.  The deputy also observed a pill bottle in plain sight inside the vehicle with the label removed and asked the driver about it.  The driver, Malcolm Jamal Givens, 30, of 214 Renshaw Street, Jennings, LA admitted that the pill bottle contained crack cocaine. Deputies discovered the pill bottle contained 13 pieces of crack cocaine. The search also revealed marijuana and a Ruger LCP .380 caliber pistol.

 Givens, was arrested and booked on charges of possession of cds II with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm in the presence of CDS, illegal possession of stolen firearm, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and transactions involving the proceeds from drug offenses.  Givens has no bond.

The passenger, Crystal Alexander, 31, of 214 Renshaw Street, Jennings, LA was arrested on two outstanding warrants for Felony prohibited acts Obtaining CDS by misrepresentaiton contempt of court and resisting an officer contempt of court. Alexander is booked with no bond.
