On Thursday, October 19, 2023, Deputies patrolling stopped a 2005 Toyota Camry for a traffic violation on Interstate 10 near milepost 44.

The driver, Franklin Reyes, 29, of Glen west Street, Houston, Tx, signed a voluntary consent to search the vehicle.  Deputies located an electronic controlled hidden compartment in the vehicle.  The driver stated he had no knowledge of the compartment or what was inside.  The vehicle was not registered to Reyes, and he didn't know the owner. 

Deputies searched the compartment and located a plastic bag that contained a large amount of US currency.  Reyes was transported to the Sheriff's Office for further questioning. 

Deputies discovered the currency concealed in the vehicle was over $16,000.00.  Reyes denied ownership of the currency and was released on citations for the traffic violation.
