On October 7, 2023, at midnight, Deputies patrolling Welsh, La stopped a white BMW displaying switched plates. 

Deputies smelled the odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle during the interview and requested consent to search. The driver refused consent and a K-9 was requested.  Welsh PD K-9 arrived, and a positive alert was indicated by the k-9 officer.

The occupants admitted to smoking marijuana earlier. A search of the vehicle revealed three firearms, a Tan F&N 9-millimeter , Black Glock .40 caliber, and a Black Bersa .380 caliber pistol,  and Schedule IV narcotics. 

The driver, Cameron Matte, 19, of 8685 Church Point Hwy, Church Point, LA was booked for turning movements, switched plates, possession of CDS IV, possession of firearm with CDS.

John Jardell Garrick, 20, 341 St. Jude street, Church Point was booked for possession of CDS IV and possession of firearm with CDS.

Javian Antwone Murphy, 20, of 552 N. Kelly Street, Church Point, Lawas charged with possession of a Firearm with Controlled Dangerous Substance, and Possession of Schedule IV.
