On April 6, 2023, Jefferson Davis Sheriff Detectives responded to a local school in reference to a possible cruelty to a juvenile. 

Detectives obtained statements and observed scratches and some bruising on a juvenile, age 13. 

On April 10, 2023, Detectives requested an arrest warrant based on the information received for Jeremy Todd Mallett, 39, of 12006 Hwy 1131, Welsh for Domestic Abuse Battery with Strangulation, Domestic Abuse Battery with Child Endangerment, and Cruelty to juveniles.

The charges were the result of a incident that occurred at Mallett's home on Tuesday April, 4, 2023.
