On Friday, January 15, 2021, Deputies were dispatched to 20174 Bourque road in reference to a disturbance. While in route to the scene, dispatchers advised the suspect, was reported to be leaving the residence in a blue truck headed east on Bourque road. 

 Deputies located the blue truck and observed Derrick Lawrence driving the vehicle. Deputies stopped the vehicle and had Lawrence exit the vehicle. Lawrence admitted to getting in argument with his girlfriend. 

The victim stated when she tried to leave, Lawrence punched her in the nose causing it to bleed and knocking her out. The victim advised when she woke up, she jumped out of the moving vehicle to get away and ran to the first house she could see.

Derrick James Lawrence, 33, of 402 Elizabeth street, Welsh was arrested and booked into the parish jail on Domestic abuse battery and false imprisonment.
