JDSO and LSP K-9's working at local schools

09/23/2013

Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff Office, Louisiana State Police, and the JDP school board are working together to promote a drug free learning environment.  Law enforcement and school administrators will be performing random, unannounced searches utilizing Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff Office and Louisiana State Police canine drug dogs at the public schools to identify any contraband that may be entering the school grounds.  Last Wednesday three schools in the parish were visited.  The schools practice their lockdown procedures during the visits and school officials assist in the search of any areas that a drug dog makes an alert.  So far no illegal contraband was found at any of the schools.  Sheriff Ivy Woods wants to continue this practice to ensure the students of Jefferson Davis Parish are safe and in a drug free environment when at school.
