On 08/31/2013 at approximately 0314 hours, Jefferson Davis Parish deputies working stationary radar on I-10 West bound at milepost 60 observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle at milepost 60. Upon exiting the patrol unit the suspect's vehicle's reverse lights activated. The vehicle slowly backed up until it struck the patrol unit. the driver was ordered to turn off the vehicle. Upon coming into contact with the driver deputies could smell a strong odor of burnt marijuana and air freshener emitting from the interior of the vehicle. The driver was cited for speeding and then asked for consent to search his vehicle. The driver, Mr. Forrest Devon Charles III, 30 yoa of 706 Bailey Avenue Rayne, LA, gave written consent to search his vehicle. As deputies searched the vehicle they discovered a cigarette pack containing 8 1/2 pills wrapped in a clear plastic bag deputies identified as Hydrocodone (Schedule III drug). Charles was placed under arrest. Deputies also discovered in the center console of the vehicle stacks of money each wrapped in a rubber band. Charles was booked into the parish jail without incident. All contraband and currency ($8,921.00) was seized.
