Property Taxes Reminder

10/29/2018

Sheriff Ivy Woods reminds the citizens of Jefferson Davis Parish that property tax notices have been sent out beginning on October 22.

Parish property taxes help fund all aspects of public service such as roads, drainage, levees, law enforcement, fire departments, hospitals, ambulance services, schools and recreation.

Payments are due by December 31, 2018, before accruing interest, and all property taxes are considered delinquent if not paid by that date. Delinquent taxes accrue at a 1 percent monthly rate until the total is paid. Unpaid taxes will also include additional costs associated with collection such as, but not limited to, certified mailing costs, Mennonite letter costs and newspaper advertisements. If property taxes are still not paid and the property is sold at a tax sale, the homeowner is subject to losing the homestead exemption and a tax interest in the property.

Jefferson Davis Parish taxes may be paid in person or mailed to the Sheriff's Tax Office new location at 1530 La. Hwy. 90 West (Shankland Ave.) in Jennings, or payments may also be mailed to P.O. Box 863 Jennings, LA 70546.

For additional information, or anyone who receives a tax bill or notice for property no longer own by the notice recipient, contact the Sheriff’s Tax Office at 337-821-2120.
