Jefferson Davis Sheriff’s office received a call yesterday evening around 8 pm reporting a possible shooting.  Deputies investigated the call and responded to 13303 Melanson Road, Lacassine.  Deputies discovered a crime scene at the home and began searching for the resident.  Information received led deputies to a residence in Lake Charles on 17th street. Lake Charles Police assisted Jeff Davis detectives in serving a search warrant at that location early this morning around 2:00 am. Additional evidence was discovered, directing deputies to return to Melanson Road and resume  a search for the victim. 

At approximately 6:30 am this morning, deputies discovered the body of Victor Paul Martin, 33 of 13303 Melanson Road, Lacassine.  The preliminary investigation revealed the victim was killed at his home on Melanson road, then his body was moved to a wooded location south of the home and hidden.  Martin’s body was transported to the Calcasieu Parish coroner’s office.

Matthew Clement Markwood, 33,  of 1305 17th street, Lake Charles was arrested today on charges of 2nd Degree murder and Obstruction of Justice.  Markwood is held in the parish jail with no bond.  The investigation is still ongoing.
