Detectives with the Jeff Davis Sheriff’s office completed the investigation into the shooting of a 2 year old boy that occurred on March 24, 2018.  The 2 year old boy was shot in the abdomen by a 4 year old child that gained access to a loaded 9mm semi-auto pistol that was left unattended and unsecured in the residence at 2074 Jeff Davis Academy Road, Apt#4, Jennings. 

The investigation revealed that there are a total of four children living in the residence under the age of 5 years. Detectives discovered that an adult residing at the residence, placed the loaded weapon under the cushion, of the couch where she fell asleep the night before.

In the morning of March 24, one of the children found the firearm in the couch and introduced it to the play area where the children were located.  The weapon discharged and the 2 year old was shot.  Detectives arrested Summer  Lane Chiasson, 33, of 2074 Jeff Davis Academy Road, # 4, Jennings, LA this morning on charges of 1 count of cruelty to juveniles (Felony) with no bond.
