The Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff Office would like to warn area residents of two new scams being reported to authorities.

The first is a telephone recorded message call alerting persons that their *debit card* may have had a temporary hold placed on your account and the recording ask you to call (877) 886-1996, Once called the recording asks for the recipient to enter the 16 digit debit card number and pin number so a customer service representative can assist with releasing a hold on the debit card account. The recorded message refers to Mid South bank debit cards. This is a SCAM. Do not ever provide your account number, pin number or secret code to anyone soliciting the information. If you receive a message like the one just described, hang up and then call or go in person to your local bank and speak to someone you can verify is actually an employee of the financial institution.

The second SCAM is involving an alleged text from AT&T, the text reads; Great, Thank you for being a loyal customer, Service Discount 25% off, For more information visit: http://is.gd/tprDP7 -If this is an error, reply ERROR- The web link asks for your account number, password and last 4 of your social. It is a scam! DO NOT REPLY OR OPEN THE LINK IF YOU GET ONE LIKE THIS! The persons behind the scam are trying to get your password so they can purchase a phone and activate using your open account.

If you receive a call, text, or email that is similar to the one's described contact the company involved and report it. If you are the victim of a scam keep the email or text and report it to your local authorities.
