Five arrested for animal cruelty

02/05/2018

Five men were arrested over the weekend when deputies with Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office (JDSO) responded to a call regarding a complaint of chicken fighting.

JDSO Chief Deputy Chris Ivey said when deputies responded to the address of 4456 Pete Road in Jennings at approximately 9 p.m. Saturday night, Jan. 3, they could immediately hear excessive noise coming from the barn next door to the residence.

“There were also a large number of vehicles parked in the yard,” said Ivey. “When they approached the barn to speak to the resident of the home, they discovered a cockfight in progress inside.”

Deputies immediately stopped the fights and identified the people involved.

The resident of the home, identified as 50-year-old Scotty Comeaux, of Jennings, was arrested on the charge of animal cruelty, as well as 48-year-old Timmy Paul Touchet, of Gueydan; 43-year-old Troy Anthony Levergne, of Rayne; 45-year-old Danny F. Guidry of Church Point and 45-year-old Chad Louis Miller, of Branch. All five were transported to the sheriff’s office for statements and were booked into the parish jail on a $2,000 bond.

“Apparently, this isn’t the first time fights were held at this location,” continued Ivey. “Deputies discovered a well-established chicken fighting ring inside the barn.”

All five were released on Sunday night, Jan. 4, on bond.
