On Thursday, August 7, 2014, Detectives with the Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff Office received an anonymous tip of narcotics transactions taking place at the Budget Inn Motel located in Jennings, LA. The tip advised the suspects were driving a blue Honda Civic. Detectives observed the vehicle leave the motel and turn onto Zigler Memorial from Hwy 26. At the intersection of Zigler Memorial the vehicle turned south onto North Cutting and failed to signal. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle and upon coming into contact with the driver deputies observed her to be visibly shaking.

The driver was identified as Amy Ranel, 32, of 6109 Morgan Shores Road, Lake Arthur. Ranel was questioned if there was any illegal contraband in her vehicle and she stated no and looked down breaking eye contact. Ranel was asked to give consent to search her vehicle based on information from the tip. Ranel signed a consent to search and advised deputies she had a meth pipe and crystal meth in her purse. Deputies located the items and placed Ranel under arrest for Possession of CDS II and Possession of Drug paraphernalia. Sheriff's Office Narcotics detectives are continuing the investigation. Ranel was booked and released due to lack of jail space.
