In 1932 Jefferson Davis Parish held it's 6th election for Sheriff. In that election John L. Conner, a native of Jennings, LA, was elected as the 3rd Sheriff of Jefferson Davis Parish. Sheriff Conner was not a stranger to the people of Jefferson Davis Parish nor his predecessor Sheriff Fontenot. During Sheriff Fontenot's stay in office Sheriff Conner was the Jefferson Davis Parish Tax Collector. Sheriff Conner, following his only term as Sheriff, ran for Mayor of Jennings and won serving as Mayor from 1950 until 1955.
