Spring 2018 D.A.R.E. Graduations

Spring 2018 D.A.R.E. Graduation

The Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office held the spring D.A.R.E. Graduations for fifth grade students of Bethel Christian School (BCS) and Hathaway High School (HHS) and the sixth grade students of Lake Arthur Elementary School (LAES) and Jennings Elementary School (JES) from May 7-9.

Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) is an international substance abuse prevention education program, founded in Los Angeles in 1983 as a drug control strategy of the American war on drugs. The program teaches students life skills on how to resist and prevent the use of drugs, bullying, violent or gang activity and behavior, as well as how to address a variety of issues many teens face today. Students who participate in the ten-week program pledge not to use drugs or join gangs and are taught the dangers of recreational drug use in an interactive in-school curriculum. The D.A.R.E. Program is taught by police officers in a series of lessons, allowing young people to relate to officers as people, opens lines of communication and also to see officers in a helping role, not just an enforcement roll.

The Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office strongly supports our parish youth and believes in introducing positive decision making skills at an early age.
